“Vylkashin” School

“Vylkashin” School

“Vylkashin” school was founded in 2016 in Sofia. Its chairman and leader is Peter Ganev. The members are from Sofia and Targovishte and they are separated in two groups at both places. These are people with different professions and education but with a common interest and passion for Bulgarian history.

The goals of the “Vylkashin” school are to seek out, restore, preserve and impart the culture, knowledge, traditions and martial practices of the ancient Bulgarians. A major form of achieving these goals is participation in historical restorations and festivals as well as other cultural and sporting events and school activities. The school cooperates with other organizations in this field and maintains good relations with them.

Since its inception, it has not missed a historical festival in Bulgaria, recreating the period of the Early Middle Ages: The International Council Festival “Days of Ancestors“ at the Pliska National Historical and Archeological Reserve, The Festival of Medieval Traditions, Lifestyle and Culture "Kaleto - Mezdra", The Tourist Entertainment and Animation Fair  “Kabile” - Yambol", The National Medieval Fair "Magical Madara", "Trajan's Gate - Greatness and Memory",  The “Plovdiv - Ancient and Eternal: History, Ethnology, Culture and Art” Festival,  the Medieval Fair in Assenovgrad, etc.

“Vylkashin” school has its own independent performances and also works with schools, museums and community centers. It recreates medieval combat practices in extreme demonstrations with real weapons and fire. In 2018, at the "Trajan's Gate - Greatness and Memory" Festival, Peter and Daniela Ganevi, members of the school, got married and recreated the first ever medieval wedding in Bulgaria since the Second Bulgarian Kingdom and all participants and spectators of the festival were attending the wedding. The school is also involved in the production of a full-length feature film entitled “The Pelicans' Blood” as well as in filming local projects.

The main priority of the school is to support the education, development and creation of a value system for young people. To achieve all this, the “Vylkashin” School works with prominent rebuilders and historians, museum workers and archaeologists as all the theory, practice and equipment is based on historical sources and findings.
